About Identity Assurance

Identity Assurance is a customer identity-verification solution. It lets customers use their MyServiceNSW username and password to log into a NSW Government website or app and prove their identity.

Customers’ identity document details can be verified before they use a service or complete a transaction.

Identity Assurance works with Authenticate and MyServiceNSW Account to provide a secure customer authentication and verification solution.

Benefits

There are many benefits to using this identity verification solution.

Reduce fraud

Embed fraud detection into your services and transactions.

Cost-saving

Save time and money used to assess identity documents manually.

Customer ease

Customers can quickly and easily prove their identity reusing verified identity document details saved in their MyServiceNSW Account.

Choice

You can determine the level of identity verification you need, e.g. at least 2 identity documents.

Reduce security risk

Increase your personally identifiable information (PII) security by leveraging this security-compliant solution.

Document scanning

Our solution can read data across multiple forms of identity documents.

When to use

Use Identity Assurance:

  • to reach more than 9 million MyServiceNSW Accounts, with more than 5 million verified with identity documents
  • instead of building and supporting an identity-verification process and platform
  • if you want to partly automate eligibility checks based on customers’ identity documents
  • if you want your customers to be able to save and re-used their verified identity documents across the multiple services you provide.

How it works

Once Identity Assurance is implemented:

  1. Your customer will see a 'Continue with Service NSW' button on your website or app. If you want Service NSW to host the service or transaction, your customer will start their journey from the Service NSW website.
  2. They will be prompted to log into their MyServiceNSW Account using their username and password. If they don't have an account, they'll have the option to create one.
  3. If enabled, customers will complete multi-factor authentication.
  4. Once authenticated, they will be asked to verify their identity. This step will be automated if a customer has previously agreed to save and reuse their verified identity documents, saving them time.
  5. Once their identity has been verified, they'll be redirected to where you offer your service or transaction.
