Introduction
A surveyor’s assistant carries out survey work under the supervision of a registered surveyor. The registered surveyor takes responsibility for their assistant's work.
To become a surveyor’s assistant, you'll need to apply to the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI).
Before you apply, check BOSSI’s requirements for becoming a surveyor’s assistant.
You must pay an annual fee to maintain your status as a surveyor’s assistant.
Eligibility
One of the following should apply to you:
- hold a recognised qualification
- hold a technical qualification in surveying and have 3 years practical experience
- have at least 10 years practical experience in surveying acceptable to BOSSI.
What you need
- a MyServiceNSW Account (you can create one when you start your application) or your OneGov account
- your supervisor’s full name, contact details and registration number
- copies of the following documents that are certified, in English, and in PDF format (maximum file size 4MB):
- tertiary education degree, transcript or proof of enrolment
- proof of identity such as driver licence, passport, birth certificate
- applicant letter of duties
- supervisor assessment approval letter
- a passport quality photo in JPG format
- a credit or debit card for the enrolment fee.
How to apply
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Select 'Start' on the application screen.
- Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account, or log in using your OneGov credentials.
- Follow the prompts to apply to be a surveyor's assistant.
