Introduction
To become a registered surveyor in NSW you need to have gained a recognised qualification or equivalent and a Certificate of Competency. You can then apply for registration online.

Eligibility
To apply you must be either:
- a candidate surveyor in NSW and hold a Certificate of Competency, or
- registered in another Australian state/territory or New Zealand (mutual recognition).
What you need
- a MyServiceNSW Account (you can create one when you start your application) or your OneGov account
- copies of the following documents that are certified, in English, and in PDF format (maximum file size 4MB):
- Certificate of Competency
- tertiary education degree
- proof of identity such as driver licence, passport, birth certificate
- 2 character references, dated within the last 24 months
- completed Notice of practical experience form – PDF (optional)
- a passport quality photo in JPG format
- a credit or debit card for the registration fee
- mutual recognition applicants also need:
- Letter of Accreditation issued by the interstate or New Zealand surveying board, dated within the last 12 months
- statutory declaration verifying that the information on the forms is true and correct.
How to apply
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Select 'Next' on the application screen.
- Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account, or log in using your OneGov credentials.
- Follow the prompts to apply to be a registered surveyor.
Note: To apply via mutual recognition, in the 'Mutual Recognition or Certificate of Competency' screen, select 'No' to the first question to get the mutual recognition option.
