Product Safety Australia
When you report an unsafe product to Product Safety Australia (a website of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission – ACCC) it helps them understand issues that cause harm to Australian consumers and where best to use their resources.
The ACCC can act to ensure compliance with the law. Find out more about your rights as a consumer and how to resolve an individual dispute about a product or service on the ACCC website.
If the product you have reported is regulated by another agency, the ACCC may need to share your information in line with the law and their Privacy Policy.
More information
Product safety regulation in Australia is a shared responsibility between the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the states and territories.
The Australian Consumer Law protects consumers against unsafe consumer goods and product-related services. These protections allow ministers to:
- issue safety warning notices
- ban products, either on an interim or permanent basis
- impose mandatory safety and information standards
- issue compulsory recall notices.
Consumer goods are products intended or likely to be used for personal, domestic or household use or consumption.
Product-related services are services for or relating to installation, delivery, assembly, maintenance, repair or cleaning of consumer goods.
Businesses
The Australian Consumer Law does not cover claims relating to businesses such as:
- damage to commercial property
- loss arising from a business relationship, such as loss of profit
- losses for claims made for workers' compensation; and
- losses regulated by international agreements.
