Introduction
When you buy a vessel, you need to transfer its registration into your name within 14 days of the date of purchase.

What you need
- your proof of identity
- certificate of registration with the:
- Transfer of Vessel Registration section on the back completed and signed by the seller, and the buyer section completed and signed by the buyer
- Hull Identification Number (HIN) recorded on the front of the certificate
- if there is no HIN on the front of the certificate, a HIN (Boatcode) certificate is required – find a boatcode agent to get the vessel inspected
- your payment.
In addition, if the registration certificate sections are incomplete, you'll need:
- a completed Application for Transfer of Vessel Registration – PDF
- supporting documents to prove acquisition of the vessel.
How to transfer
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Book an appointment' button.
- Follow the prompts to make an appointment at a Service NSW Centre.
- Lodge your transfer documentation in person at your selected service centre.
