Introduction

If you travel on a toll road, you must pay a fee. Motorists that regularly travel on toll roads, can open an E-Toll Account to automatically pay the toll.

You can choose between two accounts that allow you to travel on all Australian roads at any time:

E-Toll Tag Account

  • for frequent toll road users
  • you receive a physical tag to keep in your vehicle
  • you can have multiple tags on your account.

E-Toll Tagless Account

  • for occasional toll road users
  • no physical tag is provided
  • when passing through a toll, your number plate is photographed and your account charged
  • additional fees apply.

Note: All toll roads are electronically tolled. There are no cash tollbooths. If you’re visiting NSW, or plan to use toll roads for up to 30 days, you can order an eMU Casual Pass.

You can apply for an E-Toll Account online, by calling 13 18 65 or by visiting a Service NSW Centre.

What you need

  • the vehicle's details, including the state the vehicle is registered in (it does not have to be NSW)
  • your Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN) (if applicable)
  • the registration fee (for an E-Toll Tagless Account)
  • payment for the account's opening credit
  • personal details for up to 2 additional contacts (optional)
Note: You must get their permission first. They will have access to your account using the same password you create to open the account.

How to open

  1. Select the 'Open an account' button.
  2. Choose the account you want to open.
  3. Read and accept the Terms and Conditions.

  2. Visit a service centre and open an account in person.

What happens next

  • If you choose a physical tag, it will be posted to your nominated address within 5 to 7 business days.
  • After opening an account, you can use toll roads straight away if you have linked a valid licence plate number to your account.
Note: Any vehicle matching fees incurred during this time will be re-credited to your E-Toll Account. You'll see them on your next statement (E-Toll Tag Accounts only).

Payment methods

Any of the following:

  • credit card (Mastercard, Visa or American Express)
  • debit card (Mastercard, Visa)
  • direct debit from a bank account.

More information

  • It's important to fit your tag correctly. You may incur additional fees if your tag is not detected when you're using a toll road.
  • If you travel on a toll road without an E-Toll Account or an eMU Casual Pass, you'll need to pay a toll trip
