Check availability of an association name

Introduction

When you choose a name for your association, it must not be identical or similar to a name that is already registered for:

• an existing incorporated association
• a registered business or company name.

You can check the availability of a name online. 

The online search results will indicate whether your proposed name is already registered or reserved.

Eligibility

This check can be completed by anyone who wants to search the availability of an association name.

What you need

• your chosen association name(s).

How to check

1. Select the 'Check online' button.
2. Enter the association name you want to search.
3. Select 'Check Now' to view the search results.

NSW Fair Trading register

For information on incorporated associations registered in NSW under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009, check the NSW Fair Trading register. This register includes the association's:

• name
• incorporation number
• date of incorporation
• registration status.
