Introduction
You can reserve a proposed name for:
- a new association
- changing the name of your existing association
- amalgamation of 2 or more associations
- registration of a registrable corporation as an incorporated association.
Reserving a proposed name is optional.
Before you start your application, check whether the name you have chosen has already been registered.
Eligibility
A person who is authorised by the association committee can apply to reserve a name.

What you need
- 3 proposed names for your association in order of preference
- the PDF form – 'Application for reservation of name (Form A1)'.
How to apply
- Check the eligibility requirements.
- Select the 'Download PDF form' button.
- Complete the form and submit it with your payment either:
- at a Service NSW Centre, or
- by mail or email using the details on the form.
More information
- If approved, the name will be reserved for 3 months and expire if the association does not incorporate in that time.
- The period of 3 months for name reservation cannot be extended.
- It’s your responsibility to check whether a name is restricted in a way that may prevent the use of it, such as it closely resembles an existing incorporated association name, or is the same as a registered business or company name.
