Rent Choice is a private rental subsidy that helps you pay the rent for up to 3 years.

It supports access to safe and affordable housing for eligible people who can show that they're able to sustain a tenancy in the private rental market.

Support includes:

  • Rent Choice Start Safely supports people who do not have a stable and secure place to live because of domestic or family violence.
  • Rent Choice Youth helps people aged 16 to 24 who do not have a stable and safe place to live.
  • Rent Choice Veterans helps former members of the permanent Australian Defence Force (ADF) who do not have a stable and safe place to live.
  • Rent Choice Assist supports households that have experienced a major financial setback such as illness or job loss, and are at risk of becoming homeless. It's available for eligible people living in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland areas and the following Greater Sydney districts:
    • Western Sydney
    • South West Sydney
    • South Eastern Sydney
    • Inner West.
  • Rent Choice Transition offers private rental support for social housing tenants moving to a private rental in:
    • Western Sydney District
    • South Western Sydney District
    • Hunter/New England District
    • Illawarra District, and
    • Murrumbidgee District.
