Payment amount: $200 as a one-off payment

If you’ve been affected by the Far West NSW power outage from 17 October 2024, you may be eligible for a $200 payment.

You must have been living in one of the impacted areas:

  • Broken Hill
  • Central Darling Shire
  • Far West Unincorporated Area
  • Cockburn, South Australia.

Note: If you live in Cockburn, South Australia you will be unable to apply online.

If you're a business owner affected by the Far West power outage, you may be eligible for a $400 business grant.

Eligibility

On 17 October 2024, you must have been aged 18 or over and either:

  • living in an impacted area, or
  • had a Fly-in-Fly-Out (FIFO) work arrangement in an impacted area.

An 'impacted area' is one listed in AGRN 1149 or Cockburn, South Australia.

What you need

  • a proof of identity document that shows your full name and date of birth
  • your bank account details for payment
  • one of the following to show you live in the impacted area:
    • utility bill issued between 17 June 2024 and 17 October 2024
    • vehicle registration notice issued between 17 October 2023 and 17 October 2024
    • letter from Centrelink, Medicare, Service NSW, Transport for NSW, Australian Taxation Office, or other government agency issued between 17 June 2024 and 17 October 2024
    • Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card current as of 17 October 2024
    • copy of residential tenancy agreement current as of 17 October 2024
    • council rates notice issued between 17 October 2023 and 17 October 2024
  • if you're a FIFO worker, a letter from your employer confirming that you were in a FIFO arrangement in the impacted area on 17 October 2024
  • a MyServiceNSW Account if you’re applying online
    • you can create one when you start your application
    • you may need details from 2 identity documents (such as Australian driver licence, Medicare card, passport).

How to apply

Apply online

  1. Check you meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. Have your documents ready for uploading in JPEG, JPG, PDF, PNG, TIF, HEIC, or HEIF format (maximum file size 7 MB).
  3. Select the ‘Apply online’ button.
  4. Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account.
  5. Follow the prompts to apply for the grant.

When you submit your application, you'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number.

After your application is received, it will be assessed. We’ll contact you if we need more information. If your application is approved, a payment will be transferred to your bank account within 5 to 10 business days.
