Introduction

If you need to voluntarily surrender a NSW driver or rider licence because it's no longer required, you're moving interstate or overseas, or the licensee is deceased, you can do this at a Service NSW Centre.

If the licensee is deceased, refunds may be applicable.

What you need

  • your proof of identity
  • your driver or rider licence (if available)
  • a letter from a licensing authority confirming that your licence was transferred to another state or territory (if applicable and you don't have the licence)
  • written evidence of authority (if you're surrendering a licence for someone else)
  • confirmation of death, such as a death certificate or newspaper death notice (if the licensee is deceased).

How to surrender

  1. Gather the required documents.
  2. Visit a service centre and submit your documents in person.
