Introduction
An NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC) is valid for 5 years and can be used across Australia with any NDIS employer and in any NDIS role. You do not have to reapply if you move interstate or change employers or roles.
In NSW there are 3 steps involved in an NDISWC application.
The first step is online, and you apply through your MyServiceNSW Account.
If your application is successful the 'NDIS Worker Check' tile is added to the 'My Services' page in your account.
The NDISWC certification is digital – you do not receive an NDISWC certificate or card.
You manage your NDISWC, such as checking the status of your application, or updating your details, in your MyServiceNSW Account.
Note: Ensure you log in via the Service NSW website, not the Service NSW mobile phone app.
Eligibility
An NDISWC clearance is only required for roles that are:
- likely to require 'more than incidental contact' with NDIS participants, or
- involved in the delivery of 'specified supports and services', or
- classified as 'key personnel'.
Your employer will advise whether you need an NDISWC as part of your work.
You are not eligible to apply for an NDISWC if you're:
- not yet employed, or
- not about to be employed by an NDIS provider.

To complete the online application, you'll need:
- a MyServiceNSW Account
- 4 identity documents such as:
- Australian driver licence

- Identity documents must:
- be current (not expired – unless allowable as stated in NDISWC – Proving your identity)
- be original (not copies, photos or scans)

How to apply
Step 1:
- Select the 'Go to NDIS Worker Check' button.
- Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account.
- Follow the prompts to complete the online part of your application.
- You'll be sent a confirmation email with an application number.
Step 2:
Visit a Service NSW Centre within 14 days (2 weeks) with:
- your application number
- your original identity documents (not photocopies, photos or scans, and any paper documents must not be laminated)
- the application fee ($105, or free for volunteers).
You will have your photo taken at the service centre.
Step 3:
Service NSW will send your application to the NDISWC screening agency to check it is valid.
Once its validity is confirmed, the application will be uploaded to the NDIS Worker Screening Database and your employer will be asked to verify it. They have 30 days to do so.
As soon as your application is verified you'll receive a confirmation email, and the assessment process begins.
When the assessment is completed you'll be advised by email of the outcome.
