If you’re under 25 and learning to drive, you must record your driving experience in a log book.
Note: If you are 25 years or older, you are not required to log your driving hours.
How to record your driving experience
You can choose to use a paper log book or a log book app.
The free log book apps help you record and update your driving progress. They calculate your 120 driving hours and ensure you have completed 20 learning goals.
Log book apps
Roundtrip is now the only official app accepted by Transport for NSW.

Licence Ready learner log book – discontinued on the 29 June 2024
Licence Ready ceased to be accepted by Transport for NSW as an official app for submitting learner log book hours on 29 June 2024.
If you were using the Licence Ready app you need to transfer your hours to Roundtrip by:
- transferring the hours logged in the Licence Ready app into a paper log book at a Service NSW Centre. A replacement log book can be issued at no fee only if you no longer have one.
Note: You do not need to write or transfer all entries into the paper log book. The service centre can verify your hours and sign these off as a bulk entry into your paper log book.
If you need more support contact 13 77 88 or visit a Service NSW Centre.
L2P learner driver log book – discontinued on the 29 February 2024
L2P ceased to be accepted by Transport for NSW as an official app for submitting learner log book hours on 29 February 2024.
If you have hours in the L2P app, your hours can be transferred into a paper log book by Service NSW.
To transfer hours:
- Visit a Service NSW Centre with the paper log book you were issued. If you no longer have a log book, the service centre will supply you with one at no extra cost.
- Bring a PDF export of your hours from the app of your driving record, or
- If you experience difficulties exporting your hours as a PDF, bring your device with the L2P app which shows your completed hours. You may also need to provide evidence of completed learning goals and credited Safer Driver Course hours if applicable
The service centre can verify your hours and sign them off as a bulk entry in your paper log book.
You may then continue to add your hours in the paper log book.
If you need more support contact 13 77 88 or visit a Service NSW Centre.
