As a licensed builder or swimming pool builder you must undertake continuing professional development (CPD) each year, in order to renew your licence or certificate.

In the 12-month period prior to your renewal, you need to have earned a minimum of 12 CPD points. If you earn more than 12 points you can carry them (up to 11 points) into the next year.

You can choose training that suits you and your business, and most CPD activities are offered by organisations and businesses throughout NSW.

The CPD points system allows you to record and track your learning. Make sure you retain:

  • a diary record of your participation
Note: The training provider should supply you with a record of attendance document.
  • evidence such as a certificate, academic record, or a receipt if you've bought or hired learning resources.

Keep the records for 3 licence renewal periods in case you're audited by Fair Trading.

The cost of your CPD will depend on the activities you choose.

More detailed information on the CPD points system, including guidance and options on how you can earn your points, are available in the Continuing professional development – Keeping you up to date – PDF.
