Introduction

If your number plates are in storage and you wish to collect or surrender them, you must submit the required documents at the Service NSW Centre where your number plates are stored.

Eligibility

To remove number plates from storage, you must be:

  • the number plate holder or an authorised representative
  • affixing your number plates to your registered vehicle, or surrendering your number plates.

What you need

  • the PDF form – 'Number Plates and/or Cancellation of Registration'
  • your proof of identity
  • current Certificate of Registration (if available).

How to remove

  1. Select the ‘Download PDF’ button.
  2. Complete the form.
  3. Visit the service centre where your number plates are stored and submit your form and documents.

More information

  • You may be entitled to a refund for annual storage fees you have paid in advance. Refunds are issued on the number of whole years remaining in the storage period and are not pro-rated.
  • Please ensure you have the necessary tools and screws with you if you'll be picking up plates for the vehicle you're driving. Operating a vehicle without number plates is illegal.
