Introduction

If you’re 85 or older and still a competent driver, but you feel uncomfortable driving in certain situations (for example, long distances), visit a service centre and talk to the manager. The manager may suggest a modified licence based on your individual needs. A driving test is not required.

Modified licences can confine your driving to within a certain radius of your home, such as:

  • 5 kilometres
  • 10 kilometres
  • 15 kilometres
  • more than 15 kilometres in rural areas (if needed to get to your nearest town).

Note: If your doctor recommends a modified licence, a driving test is required.

What you need

  • the PDF form – 'Request for a Modified Licence'
  • your current driver licence
  • your concession details (if applicable).
