Introduction

If you’re a non-profit organisation and you want to sell alcohol at an event, you may be eligible to have up to 6 fundraising functions a year without the need to get a liquor licence.

Examples of functions include dinners, balls, conventions, sporting events, performances, exhibitions, seminars, carnivals and fetes.

A non-profit organisation (also known as a non-proprietary association) includes amateur sports clubs, community groups, parents and citizens’ associations, and charities.

Eligibility

  • A non-profit organisation (non-proprietary association) as defined under liquor laws and described by Liquor & Gaming.

You’re not eligible if you:

  • currently hold a limited liquor licence on behalf of an organisation
  • were prevented from holding a liquor licence by an order
  • are an organisation that’s been declared ineligible for exemption
  • are an organisation, secretary or office holder who’s committed a serious offence under the liquor laws during the last 6 months.

What you need

  • personal and contact details
  • name of the non-profit organisation
  • details of the function/s
  • the PDF form – 'Liquor licence exemption for fundraising function'.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the 'Download PDF form' button.
  3. Print, complete and sign the form.
  4. Submit your completed form at least 14 days before the start of the function, by mail or email, to the details on the form.
  5. Forward a copy of the form to the local police and local council where the function is being held.

Any events occurring under this exemption must still comply with laws and regulations regarding the responsible service of alcohol, as described by Liquor & Gaming.
