Introduction
You must hold a licence with the NSW Food Authority if your business prepares or stores:
- fresh cut, raw fruit and vegetables
- seed sprouts
- unpasteurised fruit or vegetable juices
- vegetables or fruit in oil
- plant products.
You can apply and pay for the licence online.
To apply for 5 or more premises, you need to complete a printed application form.
Note: You must not start business operations until you have your licence.
What you need
- ABN/ACN
- ASIC company statement showing the director names (if applicable)
- confirmation of your registered business name (if applicable)
- certificate of incorporation (if applicable)
- details of the business activities, location and food handlers
- your payment
Note: The licence fee is based on the number of food handlers and premises.
How to apply
- Gather the required documents.
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Complete the online application form.
- Submit your application and payment.
You can save and continue your application later, if needed.
If you're unable to apply online, or to apply for 5 or more premises:
- Download and complete the Application for a licence for a premises to process/store plant products – PDF.
- Gather the required documents.
- Submit your application with payment by post or email, to the details on the form.
The NSW Food Authority will review your application within 10 working days.
An assessment will be carried out before a licence is approved.

- You cannot transfer a licence.
- To change or cancel a licence, contact the Food Authority Licensing Unit on (02) 6552 3000.
- If you transport plant products, you need to apply for a licence to operate a food business.
