Introduction
If you want to keep one or more hives of honey bees in NSW, you’ll need to be registered as a beekeeper with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
What you need
- a Department of Primary Industries username and password
- your business details (if applicable)
- your concession details (if applicable)
- details of the number of hives you plan to have and their location
- your payment.
How to apply
- Select the 'Apply online' button. You'll be taken to the DPI Biosecurity and Food Safety (BFS) portal.
- Sign up or create a login.
- Complete the online application form.
More information
- Bee registration issued under the Biosecurity Act 2015 will be valid for 2 years.
- The fee depends on your registration type:
- business: carrying on the business of beekeeping, having an ABN and registered for GST
- recreational: keeping bees primarily for recreational purposes
- concession: a recreational beekeeper holding a valid Pensioner Concession Card or Seniors Card.
- All NSW beekeepers will need to adhere to the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice as a condition of registration. For more information, visit the Department of Primary Industries website.
