The DKT online content is provided specifically for the purpose of people undertaking the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) so they can qualify to undergo a practical driving test and apply for a relevant class of driver licence under the Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Regulation 2017.

This content is also for people who are required to pass the DKT to convert an overseas licence, renew their learner licence or to re-apply for a licence that has expired for more than 5 years.

The following Terms and Conditions form an agreement between you, the test participant, and Transport for NSW (Transport), and sets out:

  • the obligations of both parties
  • what constitutes use and misuse of the DKT online
  • relevant liabilities and indemnities.

By enrolling in the DKT online, you are agreeing to accept these Terms and Conditions.

Service NSW also carries out customer service functions on behalf of Transport to deliver the DKT and to carry out some other activities described in these Terms and Conditions.

Eligibility

You are eligible for the DKT online if you meet the following criteria:

  • you have a MyServiceNSW Account
  • you are at least 15 years and 11 months of age
  • you are a NSW resident
  • you have not previously been disqualified from applying for a driver licence (for example, for driving unlicensed)
  • you have not been prohibited or refused from driving a motor vehicle or riding a motorcycle in NSW or elsewhere.

Support allowed and test conditions

You may have support from family or friends when undertaking the learning modules in the DKT online.

You must undertake the final test on your own, without assistance from another person and without the use of any reference material (e.g. the Road User Handbook).

If you fail the final test you will be able to retake it after a period of 12 hours.

Enrolment and licence application period

You have a period of 12 months from enrolment in the DKT online to complete the learning modules and pass the final test.

If you fail to complete the learning modules and pass the final test within 12 months from enrolment, your enrolment will expire and you will be required to re-enrol. You may choose to instead book a DKT in person and sit the DKT at a Service NSW Centre.

Once you pass the final test you have a period of 12 months to obtain the relevant driver licence. If you fail to obtain the driver licence within this time period, you must redo the learning modules and pass the DKT again.

The Driver Knowledge Test online fee is listed on www.nsw.gov.au. When you pass the final test you will be required to pay that fee at the Service NSW Centre once you submit an application for the relevant driver licence.
