Applying for heavy vehicle access permits (B-doubles and HML vehicles)

Heavy vehicle access permits can be applied for through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) portal.

If you're needing to operate a:

• B-double outside the approved B-double road network, visit the B-double permit page on the NHVR website for everything you'll need to know.
• Higher Mass Limits (HML) vehicle outside the approved HML road network, visit the Higher Mass Limits permit page on the NHVR website for everything you'll need to know.

Note: If you're operating a Performance-Based Standards vehicle at HML, you'll need to apply for a Performance-Based Standards (PBS) access permit.

The NHVR permit applies to travel throughout Australia, with the exception of Western Australia and the Northern Territory, where you'll need to apply directly to the relevant state or territory road transport authority.
