The National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) is a formal process for recognising operators who have robust safety and other management systems in place. It is also increasingly being used to show compliance with general duty requirements under road transport law.
Modules include:
- Mass Management – if you're accredited in this module you can access additional mass concessions. These concessions allow vehicles to operate at mass limits above the national general limits.
- Maintenance Management – if you're accredited in this module you must maintain your vehicles and comply with all the relevant standards. Some jurisdictions require annual inspections as part of their registration process, but will grant exemptions to vehicles with maintenance management.
- Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) – with this accreditation you can operate under more flexible work and rest hours, as long as the risks of driver fatigue are properly managed.
- Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) – rather than specifying work and rest hours, AFM offers more flexibility than BFM in return for your demonstrating greater accountability for managing your drivers’ fatigue risks.
Applications for accreditation can be made online via the NHVR Portal.
