The NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) is delivering the Resilient Homes Program (the Program) for NSW and Australian Governments. The Program provides assistance to home owners to improve the flood-resilience of properties in the Northern Rivers by providing:

  • Home Buybacks to reduce the greatest risk to life in most floods by removing homes at risk; and
  • Home Raising and Home Retrofits to reduce economic damage to home and contents in the floodplain by making homes more flood resilient. 

Purpose for collecting your information

Service NSW, on behalf of the RA, collects your personal information to assist the RA to deliver the Program. The purpose of the collection is to: 

  • assist you to complete the Program application form or any other Program forms (e.g. an internal review form or an appeal form),
  • assist you to submit any additional information requested after you make your application for assistance under the Program,
  • contact you so we can: 
    • confirm or obtain further information or to follow up on your situation,  
    • discuss the outcomes of your application under the Program,
    • request participation in evaluation activities,
  • provide your personal information to the RA to enable it to consider your application, decide on your application, interact with you, and to administer the Program, and
  • provide your personal information to NSW and Commonwealth government agencies, councils and contractors who work with the RA to deliver the Program, for example the Commonwealth National Emergency Management Agency, NSW Public Works, independent valuers and building contractors engaged by the RA, Appeal Panel members etc.

Service NSW and the Resilient Lands Program (the RLP)

The RLP is being delivered by the RA alongside the Resilient Homes Program and is part of a suite of measures to deliver a sustainable supply of suitable land to deliver housing options in the Northern Rivers.

Service NSW assists the RA to deliver the RLP by answering general enquiries for the RLP and providing a platform to host data and manage customer interactions. Service NSW may collect your personal information to record your expression of interest for the RLP or to refer your RLP enquiry to the RA.

Service NSW gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information. We do this by handling personal information in a responsible manner and in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.

What information do we collect

Service NSW may collect the following personal information:

  • Your full name,
  • Your contact details (email, phone number and address),
  • The address of any property impacted by the disaster,
  • Whether your home or other property has been impacted by the disaster,
  • Whether you are completing the Program application form for yourself or a third party. If completing the form on behalf of a third party, please ensure that you have consent from the third party to do so,
  • Any personal information required to complete any forms for the Program,
  • Whether the residence pertaining to the Program is registered under the Disaster Relief Structural Repair Grant, and
  • Whether the residence pertaining to the Program is registered under the Flood Property Assessment Program.

How will we use and share this information

Your personal information will be used for the primary purpose that it was collected or a directly related purpose.

Service NSW will share your personal information with the RA for the purpose for which it was collected, or a directly related purpose.  

Your personal information may also be shared with Commonwealth and NSW government agencies, councils and contractors who work with the RA for the purpose for which it was collected, or a directly related purpose.  

Service NSW will otherwise not share your personal information to third parties for any purpose not already stated in this privacy notice unless you provide consent, or Service NSW is required or authorised by law.

Service NSW is allowed to collect, maintain, and use information about you for our and the RA’s internal administrative purposes in relation to this Program, including for the purpose of our interactions with you. De-identified information (not including your personal information) may be used for the purpose of planning for future disasters and recovery programs.

Are you required by law to provide us with this information

Service NSW will only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide you with the required services and assistance. Providing us with the requested information is voluntary. If you choose not to provide us with the requested information, Service NSW and the RA may not be able to provide assistance to you.
