Introduction

Eligible motorists that spend more than $60 a week on tolls can claim a rebate:

  • for toll spend between $60 and $400 a week on any tags and licence plate numbers on their personal toll account
  • for personal toll trips in a vehicle registered for private use
  • up to $340 a week for each tag and licence plate number.

When you can claim

 *Notes:

  • Toll relief is based on weekly toll spend.
  • The quarterly claim period includes full weeks from Monday to Sunday.
  • Any quarterly rebates not claimed will accrue until the claim period closes on 30 June 2025.

Eligibility

To claim, you need to be a NSW resident, and have:

  • spent more than $60 a week on tolls (up to $400) on any tags and licence plate numbers on your personal toll account
    Note: Weekly spend is Monday to Sunday
  • an active NSW personal toll account with E-Toll or Linkt (not suspended or closed) – please note:
    • if you moved from interstate, ask your toll provider if your account is suitable for toll relief. Linkt account profiles must be set up as Linkt Sydney
    • if you close your toll account, you will no longer be able to claim any rebate from that toll account
  • accrued the toll spend for personal toll trips on a vehicle that is:
    • registered in NSW for private use
    • a Class A vehicle such as a motorcycle or car (also known as Class 4)
  • paid for travel on an eligible NSW toll road
  • not already received a rebate in the quarter for which you're claiming.

Toll spend that is eligible

  • Tolls paid on all toll roads in NSW count towards your spend (except M5 South-West, if you claim under the M5 South-West Cashback Scheme).
  • Tolls for other future toll roads will be included when the roads open.

Toll spend that is not eligible

You cannot claim for tolls that are paid:

  • before 1 January 2024
  • on vehicles registered for business use
  • for business trips in vehicles registered for private use
  • that will be reimbursed elsewhere (for example, claimed back from an employer)
  • by food/courier delivery, taxi, hire car, ride share businesses
  • on a toll account held in another state or territory
  • on toll roads outside NSW
  • on M5 South-West (if you claim under the M5 South-West Cashback Scheme)
  • using casual toll products or special passes (such as LinktGO, ERider and eMU)
  • on a Class B vehicle such as a truck or bus (also known as Class 4)
    Note: This may include cars towing a caravan, boat or horse float
  • on suspended or closed NSW toll accounts.

You also cannot claim for:

  • licence number plate recognition charges
  • any other fees and charges listed on your account.

What you need

Your bank account details for payment.
Note: Make sure your bank details are correct when you claim. We may not be able to recover the funds if you provide incorrect details.

How to claim

Before you claim for the first time:

To claim:

  1. Check you meet the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the ‘Claim online’ button.
  3. Follow the prompts to claim your rebate.

Once your claim has been approved, you’ll receive your payment within 10 to 15 business days.

Eligible motorists who spend more than $60 a week on tolls can claim a rebate. Here’s how you can check your eligibility and claim.

Visit Service.nsw.gov.au and search ‘toll relief cap’.

This will take you to the Toll Relief webpage where you can learn more about the rebate.

00:51 in footage: Click ‘claim online’ which takes you to a page to log in to your MyServiceNSW Account.

00:55 in footage: If you are a new user, select “link toll account” on the Manage Toll Account page.

Follow the prompts to verify your identity.

You may need two proof of identity documents such as an Australian driver licence, Medicare card or Australian passport.

1:25 in footage: Enter your toll account number, Licence plate number and email registered to the toll account, read, and agree to the terms and conditions then click “save”.

1:38 in footage: Once saved, you should see your toll account displayed on the page; then scroll down and click “View Toll Tracker”. This is where you can check your toll spend and eligibility to claim.  

1:44 in footage: When you are eligible, the Toll Tracker will display a “Claim Now” button. To claim your rebate, click “Claim Now”.  

1:49 in footage: Follow the prompts to enter and confirm your bank details and then review your claim.

2:03 in footage: Please review and accept the terms and declarations and “submit” your claim.

Once your claim has been approved, you’ll receive your payment within 10 to 15 business days.

Remember, once you have completed these steps you can use Toll Tracker at any time to see your:

  • toll spend,  
  • how much rebate you’ve been paid
  • how much you are accruing and
  • when you’re eligible to claim.

Just access Toll Tracker from your Toll Relief tile on your My Services dashboard.

Claims can be made from the Service NSW website or App.

More information

  • By making a claim for the rebate, you may get audited. If your claim is audited, a Service NSW assessor will email or call you to request supporting documents, such as toll statements, vehicle registration certificates and bank statements.
  • Other toll relief is available – eligible motorists can also claim the 40% toll relief rebate.
