About the Commissioner
The Agriculture Commissioner provides independent advice to the Government on strategic agricultural land use issues to inform strategic planning decisions and support a more sustainable and productive agriculture industry in NSW.
The Commissioner provides advice to support the work across government and progress work underway related to agricultural land use and to explore opportunities to balance competing policy objectives for agricultural and rural land use planning. It will conduct reviews and make recommendations to the Government on agricultural matters, including productivity, land use conflict and food security.
The Agriculture Commissioner will:
- Assist the Government in developing an ongoing system for defining, identifying,
and mapping agricultural lands throughout the State. - Progress the pilot of a Farm Practices Panel, which aims to reduce conflict
between agricultural producers and neighbours on a broader scale. - Provide input and advice to address challenges related to critical renewable energy
infrastructure to support energy transition and the impact it can have on landholders. - Promote a coordinated and collaborative approach across the Commonwealth Government,
the NSW Government and local government in relation to agricultural matters. - Work with the Net Zero Commissioner to promote a cohesive approach to policy making.
